I was recently viewing a video of Setauket NY Congressman, Tim Bishop, holding a town hall meeting where citizens were voicing their displeasure. Maybe it wasn’t just their disapproval that got initial attention, it was their raw and pure anger over the current government run Medical, Medicare and Social Security systems which were broke. They were asking him in plain English how the government run healthcare system would fare any better. During the video, Tim Bishop smugly informed an attendee, “When you retire someone else is going to pay your social security”. Excuse me Timmy, what? Everyone American knows our Social Security payments were funneled off to other pet projects by past and present lawmakers never to be returned to where it belonged. People, and rightly so, have gone to prison for doing just that. However, it was another thing to listen to this Congressman saying it with such a holier than thou attitude, with no apology. It was as if Timmy was blaming the individual who was asking the question. I now know our lawmakers never take any responsibility for anything they do, except if it somehow worked out in their favor…then they will take ALL the credit.
Now for a little history lesson; the government started pilfering collecting stealing your Social Security taxes in 1937. It was and still is a contractual agreement forced upon us between the American Government and the working class. There was no opt out provision; everyone was forced to pay into social security since they started working, some of them were in their teens; many have paid hundreds of thousands into their so-called retirement fund not knowing it was being uncontrollably and disrespectfully wasted on pet projects during each current administration with little regard to your golden years. Had this money been invested during your working years, there would have been more than enough to pay the retirees their long over-due monthly SSI checks with no worries as to where it would come from. There would have been no need to push out the retirement age either, which should have many of us scratching our heads and angry as hell. I smell a lawsuit there….does the ACLU want to take it on? Unfortunately, this did not happen and even though the lawmakers kept telling us the money was gone, Americans sat idly by doing nothing. I say it was due to pure shock and disbelief.
The more I thought about it, the bigger the lump got in my throat. Is the Social Security program the biggest Ponzi scheme in the history of America? I looked up the definition of a Ponzi Scheme which read; A Ponzi scheme is when money from new investors is diverted to support payments to earlier investors.
Isn’t this exactly what our lawmakers have done and continue to do unapologetically? I had to ask myself….why isn’t the lawmakers sharing the same prison cell with Madoff? The amount of money Madoff ripped off from his investors is nothing compared to what the government has stolen from the Social Security coffers and its citizens. Lawmakers brazenly admit it and, yet, still do not change their ways and have yet to be arrested.
I am a 60’s child and have unrepentantly never trusted the government. However, this elitists attitude is something new and the total disregard for the constitution is stomach wrenching. They are robbing Americans of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness by continuing to spend your social security tax dollars on other projects and changing the rules in the middle of the game, such as pushing out the retirement age. While the deficit continues to hobble our economy, seniors may never be able to retire. It’s time to tell them, “We are mad as Hell and not going to take it anymore”! Gotta love that movie…
The proud hard-working Americans are waking up, speaking out and demanding our lawmakers, who have spent us into the poor house, to stop their shenanigans. My humble and modest fellow countrymen are the people that made a difference during the 60s and they are alive and well. Thank God for them. For the younger Americans and illegal’s who have only taken from us, take notice; the older generation will not be shoved into some corner for you to take the last drop of blood from.
Our New Mantra will be – 2010 – Kick the Herd to the Curb – The misguided, the mistrusted, the elitists and crooks. Take your hippie clothes out of the mothballs and wear them proudly while we march on Washington, and tell the government to get their hands out of our pockets and shove-it….respectfully, of course.
